The Red Book

The Red Book is a repertoire of reflections and reviews by Joshua Corlew, a secondary public school administrator interested in education, from the big picture (philosophy and history) to the small (pedagogy and practice).

The name “The Red Book” is a subversive reference to a textbook targeted by C.S. Lewis in his essay on education and truth, “The Abolition of Man”. After analyzing the textbook, Lewis concludes that our current cultural and educational project is an attempt to “[make] men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”

The name reflects the purpose of this blog, which is to subvert the abolition of man by learning how to cultivate Americans with chests.
